Johnny Knoxville has shared that a new Jackass movie will be released in cinemas this summer.

The franchise began as a TV show on MTV back in 2000, with Knoxville, Steve-O, Bam Margera and more pushing themselves to the limits by voluntarily taking part in dangerous and shocking stunts.

It has since made itself onto the big screen, and since 2002 there have been four films – including the most recent Jackass Forever, which was released in 2022.

Now, Knoxville has taken to social media to reveal that another film is on the way, and set to arrive in cinemas later this summer.

“Well a wang dang and hot damn doodle, we are starting the year off with a bang,” he wrote in the caption. “We wanted to let you know that this summer Jackass is back!!”

He also revealed that the movie will be available from June 26, and that, while details are still largely under wraps, he was sharing the news now as he wanted fans “to hear it from us first”.

The post did not explicitly mention whether the film hitting cinemas was a new movie or a rerelease of a past project, however Variety has since confirmed that it is in fact Jackass 5.

It will be released via Paramount Pictures, and it is not yet clear what the official title is. It also hasn’t yet been shared which cast members will be returning alongside Knoxville this time around. The last film saw fan favourite Steve-O take part, as well as newer faces including Eric Manaka, Zach Holmes, Rachel Wolfson, and Sean “Poopies” McInerney.

It is highly unlikely that Margera will return for the upcoming movie as he was cut from the 2022 film due to issues with substance abuse allegedly violating his contract. Last summer he distanced himself from the franchise again, and said: “You couldn’t offer me enough money to want to do another”.

The news of the new film also comes following Knoxville saying in 2022 that he was planning on retiring from “big stunts” after suffering a brain haemorrhage while filming the last Jackass film. He sustained multiple severe injuries after being kicked in the air by a bull for the movie.
