Nintendo has just revealed the first-ever color refresh for the Switch 2 Joy-Con controllers, which are available to pre-order starting today. Instead of an all-black aesthetic with the iconic red and blue touches that have become synonymous with the Switch over the years, the Switch 2 controllers will be available in black and pretty Light Purple and Light Green colorways in the US on February 12, 2026.Revealed originally on the official Nintendo Today App, and later via the official Nintendo US Twitter (X) page, these brand Joy-Con 2 controllers are the same as the pair you get packaged with your console. The only difference is the new colors on each controller, and the matching light purple and light green straps found in the box.
The change is subtle, as Ninty has opted to stick with the aesthetic of the Switch 2 Joy-Cons, so they remain all black bar the dashes of purple and green color poking out from around each analog stick and the edges of the pads where you can find the SL and SR shoulder buttons. But it's always welcome to have more choice out there, especially as these newly colored Joy-Cons mark the first of their kind to release in the 7 months since the launch of Ninty's newest console.
Until then, word to the wise, if you're looking to get your Switch-loving loved one a Valentine's Day gift next month, the new Light Purple and Light Green Joy-Cons would make for an ideal gift. Well, so long as you're based in the US and there's no pricing or product listing for these on the Nintendo UK online store quite yet.
They launch just two days before the big day of romance, and having a spare set of controllers means you can spend the rest of February 14 playing co-op games like Super Mario Party Jamboree. Just be sure not to steal any stars to keep your relationship intact as much as possible this upcoming Valentine's Day.

Rosalie NewcombeSocial Links NavigationHardware EditorEver since I first held a NES controller in my hand I've been obsessed with gaming, and the hardware it runs on. I could hook up a NES and SNES to a telly, without instructions, before I could walk. Even now, nothing is more exciting then taking a console, or handheld, out the box for the first time and setting it up. This obsession transformed into a love of games and game music, which lead to my music degree and dream of becoming the Scottish Nobuo Uematsu. After sharing my love of games through music, I began to share my love through words on sites like TechRadar and iMore. This lead to becoming a Hardware staff writer for PCGamesN, and later the Senior Tech Writer for Dexerto, covering all things Steam Deck, PlayStation and Nintendo. With that experience, I was able to level up as Hardware Editor for GamesRadar+, where I'm still just as Nintendo, PlayStation and gaming tech obsessed as ever.
